History:
When the Americans arrived, they changed the name of the place because of the fragrance of the flowers on their visit. So, they named the place Bangbangolan from the Ilocano “Bangbanglo-an” meaning to give fragrance.
But some old folks told stories that it got its name from a wild boar that thrives abundantly during the early days. These wild pigs are called locally “Bangolan”, and during the Spanish regime when somebody asked the name of the place, an old man mistakenly answered with his prize catch which he proudly called Bangol-bangolan, and from that time on, the place was called Bangbangolan.
