History:
During the Spanish regime, the government conducted a barangay survey and two Spanish Officers was sent to this place. They found the people in the barangay in a joyous, festive mood, some making benches (banco made from bamboo) and others drinking basi (wine from sugar cane). The two officers joined in the merry making and soon became tipsy. When they remembered their purpose for being there, they asked the name of the place. The oldest in the group, thinking that they were asking what the ones lying down were doing, answered, “Banco-cuscusay, Bangconacacusay”. The offricers simply nodded. In their report about the census, the officers placed the name as Bangcusay. Barangay Bangcusay has been known this name ever since.
