History:
The settlement in the barangay started with few Ilocanos and headed by a man named Biron. He was a good man and the people trusted him. He had, however, a bad temper and he was easily provoked to anger. Because of this, people began calling him “Birunget” “unget” being the Ilocano term for temperamental or easily provoked to anger.
Years later after Biron died, the people, recalling his good quantities as leader and honoring his accomplishments, the people called the barangay Birunget.
