History:
This barangay was formerly called as barrio “NEGRO”, a name given because of the popularity of a big black tree that grew in the middle of the barangay. Several years after the big tree died and had decayed, a spring sprouted out where the big tree stood. The site was then called “PUSUAC”. However, the name of the barangay as “NEGRO” was not changed at that time, although the site spurting spring, which comprised almost 1/3 of the total land area of the barangay, was named “PUSUAC”. One reason why the name of the barangy as “NEGRO” was not changed until after World War II was because of the planting in large scale, at that time, of black sugarcane also called “NEGRO”.
The change of the name of the barangay from “Negro’ to “Cabaroan” took place just after World War II. When there was an influx of people who migrated and established their new homes along the newly developed San Fernando-Bagulin Road (now Franciso Ortega Highway). The residents in this new community under the administration of the late Teniente del Barrio, Don Ariston Galvez, changed the name of the barnagy from “NEGRO’ to “CABAROAN”, which means “a new community.”
