History:
The word “Pacpaco” was derived from the Ilocano term for fern, “paco” which means edible. It was abundant in the area at that time. Originally, the name was “Capacoan” or the place of paco and was later on changed to Pacpaco. Before the influx of the early Christian settlers, Barangay Pacpaco was populated by Bagos and Igorots whose descendants now number about 10% of the total population. The early Christian settlers came in the 1800s from the lowlands of the town proper.
