History:
Long, long ago, there was a couple that got married at an early age. They promised to live together and if one would die first, they would both be buried together. A dagger was used to seal their promise and their love. The first few years were filled with understanding and love. Unfortunately, the husband run away one day and lived with another woman, it was a tragic moment for the young wife and she could hardly bear the bitterness. So one day. She killed herself and vowed to haunt the man’s memory.
Upon learning of his wife’s death, the man become restless, his conscience would not allow him o have peace. He repented, went back, and took care of his wife’s funeral. Since then the people of the barangay called the place “Saoay” from ilocano “Sumeway” (gimmulib) or broken promises. They hoped that by this act, the unfaithfulness of a loved one or breaking of a marriage may not be repeated again.
