President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the 112th Rizal Day celebration here Tuesday with full military honor and a flag-raising rites in front the City Hall where the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal is located.
Mrs. Arroyo was joined by top military and police officials led by AFP Chief of Staff General Alexander Yano and Philippine National Police Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa.
Also joining the President during the 11:00 a.m. flag-raising and wreath-laying are La Union 1st District Representative Victor Ortega, San Fernando Mayor Pablo Ortega, 2nd Dist. Rep. Tomas Dumpit Jr, Vice Governor Martin De Guzman, and other local and national officials.

Pres. Arroyo also led the celebration here last year but was held early in the morning.
After the Rizal Day rites, Mrs. Arroyo held a luncheon meeting with local officials at the provincial capitol before her private meeting with Bishop Artemio Rillera together with Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Tito Sotto and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Dionisio Santiago.
The meeting has connections with the dismissal of the case about the discovery of shabu laboratory in Bimmotobot, Naguilian, La Union because the Church was dismayed over the decision.
After the meeting, Mrs. Arroyo’s entourage went to the Engineered Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Mameltac before proceeding to the Thunderbird Resorts in Poro Point where she played golf and dine with journalists with a simple Christmas party.
Mrs. Arroyo, along with husband First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, went back to Baguio City for the New Year’s celebration.
