San Fernando celebrates feast of St. William the Hermit

The City of San Fernando will celebrate its Fiesta from February 1-10, 2009 with this year’s theme: “Rising Above Challenges”.

Residents of this lone city of La Union will start on January 30, the 10-day feast honoring the patron saint St. William the Hermit with the opening of the Agri-Trade Fair in front the city hall, inauguration of projects and a program for the differently-abled persons at the Pacoy Ortega Gym
  
Sports activities are also scheduled starting with the ‘Boxing at the Plaza’ at 7:00 pm on February 1, the mountain bike race which will start and will also end infront of the city hall from 8:00 until 4:00 pm and the National Motocross 2009 at 8:00 a.m. in Barangay Biday will be on February 8.

Different beauty, brains and talent searches will be conducted, starting with the Miss Gay Universe 2009 at the city plaza on February 5 at 7:00 p.m. The search for the Campus King and Queen Student Body Organization (SBO) which is participated by the students of the different schools in the city will be on February 6 at 8:00 pm.

The selection, proclamation, and coronation of the Little Miss City of San Fernando and Little Miss Barangay 2009 on February 7 at 7:00 pm in the City Plaza.

The grand civic and military parade will be conducted on February 9 which starts at 7:00 a.m. gathering 165 participants from different government and non-government agencies, schools and universities, business and private sectors and will be witnessed by thousands of tourists, visitors and residents of the city.

Making this year’s celebration more joyous and meaningful, the city government headed by Mayor Pablo C. Ortega lined up various activities of which a thanksgiving mass at the St. William’s Cathedral at 5:00 pm, the procession of the image of Saint William around the plaza at 6:00 pm and will be followed and highlighted by the search for Miss City of San Fernando and Miss Barangay 2009 at 8:00 pm on February 10.
