 Visitors prevailed in the San Fernando City Fiesta Kiddies Chess Tournament as the locals displayed extreme hospitality in their passive performance at the Marcos Building last February 7-8.
Vigan City’s Patrick Dulay and Daniel Lemi won all their six matches in the 14 years old and under and 10-U categories, respectively, to bring home trophies and cash prizes in the kiddies competition sponsored by the San Fernando City Government.
Saramae Pandy of San Fabian, Pangasinan also had a clean slate in 12 years old and under category to complete the visitors’ domination of the two-day tournament where 80 boys and girls from the Ilocos Region and Baguio City entered.
Sagayad’s Mariel Batulan was the best San Fernando City performer in the tournament with her third place finish in the 14-U category while Abby Apilado of Bangcusay and Patrick Oreta of Poro were the host city’s top players in the 10-U and 12-U divisions, respectively.
City Mayor Pablo C. Ortega graced the opening ceremonies and awarded the prizes during the closing ceremonies to manifest his unstinting support for sports development in the city.
The annual tournament was organized and directed by Engr. Joseph A. Dumuk and Mr. Nelson Y. Caroy, President of the Rotary Club of San Juan, was the Tournament Arbiter.
