The City Schools Division, led by Supt. Linda Laudencia, reiterated her call to public schools heads to refrain from collecting fees during enrolment in line with a directive from Department of Education Sec. Jesli Lapus issued to all public elementary and high schools.
Laudencia, who was a guest at the city government’s radio program, said that she has directed all schools under her division to post notices of no collections and uniforms policies and implement the provisions provided by the DepEd directive.
She explained however that collections, including those of voluntary contributions can be enforced two months after the start of the school year.
Contributions such as the Parents-Teachers Community Association, Boys and Girls Scouts of the Philippines, Phil. National Red Cross are not a requirement for the students to pay as these are only voluntary, she clarified.
“It is not even a requirement for getting their clearances (signed), transfer (of school) and getting their (report) cards or other credentials.”
“Some parents advance their payments during the enrollment so that they would have no more problems during classes but I made it a point to instruct school heads to take the payments in writing, saying they did not force them (to pay voluntarily), she added.
Laudencia also appealed to Mayor Pablo Ortega to restore the fund given to gifted students who wanted to have extra class sessions during Saturdays in line with the City Government education enhancement program, where they would get refunds for expenses in the duration of the one-year special class hours.
Classes started without hitches throughout the city, according to Laudencia, except for damaged computers in public schools which were donated by the city government. |
