San Fernando City joins the whole nation in celebrating the 112th Independence Day, anchored on a theme “Kalayaan 2010 : Tagumpay ng Bayan”
At exactly 8:00AM of June 12, the joint celebration of the Province of La Union and the City of San Fernando started with the Flag raising ceremony led by the provincial and city officials. Subsequent to the flag raising ceremony was the Wreath laying infront of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and Don. Francisco “Pacoy” Ortega monument. Members of the Provincial Board Members, City Councilors, NGOs headed the wreath laying ceremony. Following these ceremonies, a program was conducted in front of the City Hall of San Fernando, joining the event were the provincial and city officials, personnel, and visitors from the NGOs. An acapella of Ang Aming Dasal was executed by the Ortega Singing Choir. Re-elect and City Councilor Joseph De Guzman gave his opening remarks in behalf of Vice Mayor Pancracio Q. Nisce, while Outgoing Councilor and Newly Elect Board Member Francisco “Kit” C. Ortega gave his warm message in behalf of Gov. Manuel C. Ortega and Cong. Victor F. Ortega who did not make it prior to a previous commitment.
Dr. Geoffrey S. Tilan gave his closing remarks by telling the people especially the newly-elect officials to “forget partisan politics” and we should unite as one for the development of our province.
This year’s freedom day is momentous and historical for the celebration also coincides with the transition period of the Philippine Government – closing the Arroyo administration and escorting the administration of President-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” C. Aquino III
What we were yesterday, what we are today and whatever we will be in the future made possible only because of our freedom to live our lives to their fullest potential. No other day but Independence Day reflects the common aspirations of past, present and future generations of Filipinos. |
