SFC joins DOH Knock Out Tigdas

The City Government of San Fernando headed by Mayor Pablo C. Ortega joined the nationwide campaign of the Knock Out Tigdas program of the Department of Health Region I yesterday. (Monday)

The project is a month-long door-to-door program of the DOH headed by Dr. Eduardo Janairo, Regional Director in coordination with Dr. Eduardo Posadas, City Health Officer, immunizing children from 9 months to 4 years old with anti-measles vaccination, Vitamin A and deworming.

Dr. Posadas, told that the campaign is the third and final sequel of the City’s 6-year mass immunization activity in fully eliminating measles circulation in the Country by year 2008. The first two rounds had been conducted in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

The City Health Office has targeted 95% or a total of 12,000 eligible children to be vaccinated in the city alone. Dr. Posadas deployed 30 teams or 300 volunteers particularly to the remote barangays whose residents are prone to the disease.

According to Dr. Janairo, the purpose of the program is to prevent the outbreak of measles and for the comprehensive attention to the health of children. He also recognized and commended the efforts of the City Government in reaching out to the campaign for the 40% completion on its first day.

Mayor Ortega led the start of the program by administering Vitamin A to the children during the launching of the activity in front of the City Hall after the Flag Raising Ceremony.

The City Government fully supports the program by means of information dissemination through radio and print until the end of the campaign.
