All roads goes to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for the joint oath-taking and inauguration of national, provincial and municipal officials of La Union.
Rain or shine, it is the day for celebration and unity. Many people, visitors and guests of La Union will attend the momentous event for the province because it’s the first time the three Congressmen; Hon. Victor F. Ortega of District I, Hon. Eufranio Eriguel of District II and Hon. Francisco Emmanuel Ortega of Abono representative will take their oath, same with all the Municipal Mayors, Vice-Mayors, Councilors of all the towns of La Union, including our very own City of San Fernando.
Dir. Corazon P. Guray, Regional Director of DILG delivered her welcome address. She stressed that a “good governance” must be responsible, accountable, and a principle governance.
After the welcome address, the program proper started. Representative Victor F. Ortega who won unopposed relay on his message that “people of La Union should be proud to live in a peaceful place like La Union. There will be no more Guns, Goons and Gold because God and Good Governance will now takeover. We should not be complacent, instead, we must protect what we have earned. We must be united to have peace, prosperity and progress in our province.” Hon Samuel R. Matrires, Associate Justice of Sandiganbayan administered the oath taking of the newly-elect national officials.
Following the oath-taking of the national officials, provincial officials was next. With the oath-taking of Governor Manuel C. Ortega, with no less than Hon. Samuel R. Martires administered his oath. A festive mood by the Governor infected the audience when he conveyed his gratitude to the people especially the officials who have been very supportive to his administration.
As the lone city in the province, the City of San Fernando and its officials also took their oath. Mayor Pablo C. Ortega took his oath and was administered by Gov. Manuel C. Ortega. His advocacy for the City was the theme in his message. Being a resident in the city, we should love and protect it and we should consider it as “OUR HOME.”
Elected Mayors in all the municipalities of La Union together with their Vice-Mayors and Councilors were in attendance except for Rosario, who happened to have their own oath-taking in their town at that time.
The Guico couple, a visitor of former San Fernando Mayor, Madam Mary Jane Ortega rendered a song number to entertain the audience. They were well-applauded when they sang The Impossible Dream and Think of Me. Folkloriko ti La Union and The Ortega Singing Scholars presented their own special numbers as well.
The program and celebration was ended with photo documentation of all newly-elect officials, including their families and relatives afterwhich a sumptuous meal was served for lunch at the Diego Silang Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
