The Asian Institute Management (AIM) Policy Center and USAID have recognized the city’s Outstanding Performance in the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project (PCCRP) 2009. The award was held at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City on July 19, 2010.

The City Competitiveness Program is envisioned to be a convergence point for principal actors in the city development. It provides a venue for multisectoral dialogue, research and consultation assessing the competitiveness and over-all development performance of emergent cities.

Out of 8 categories for the awards, 4 were given to San Fernando. Special Award for Best Documentation, Most Honest and Transparent in its Dealings, Most Supportive to MSMEs and Quality of Life Award were the awards received among the Emergent Cities in the Philippines.

Mayor Pablo C. Ortega and City Health Officer Eduardo Posadas received the awards for the city.

17 Emergent cities are San Fernando, Dagupan, Santiago, Tuguegarao, Angeles, Lucena, Puerto Princesa, Naga, Legaspi, Tacloban, Ormoc, Pagadian, Iligan, Tagum, Cotabato, Butuan and Surigao.

The awards are considered milestone to the city as we continue to make it more competitive not just locally but globally.

AIM conducts research and advocates policies that promote a business environment fostering a level playing field, globally competitive industries and sustainable economic development. Recommendations are presented to the government as “private sector solutions to public problems”.
