City Councilor Francisco “Kit” Ortega, Jr., newly-elected regional chairperson of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Region I Chapter, expressed confidence that there is a stronger voice and representation of Region I in the reformed circle of legislators from the north after electing their new set of officers and directors at the La Union Provincial Capitol yesterday.
Ortega, who was unanimously chosen to lead the League, said that the cooperation and solidarity shown by his colleagues here yesterday will help strengthen its stand and objectives on the national level, consisting of 16 regions nationwide.
“Solid North is alive again,” Ortega said, who run unopposed, including his slate, for the chairmanship during the PCL (La Union Chapter) elections recently. Solid North comprises loyal Ilocano politicians working as one voice gained prominence during the Marcos administration.
Ortega cited exchange of best legislative practices, benefits, capability-building and networking with other regional chapters of the PCL as among the main objectives of the League and also improve legislative-making.
Its initial thrust would be to upgrade the capability of the League, educational and moral assistance and orientation among its members as its first step in the agenda.
Also elected as regional vice chairperson was Alfonso D. Singson (PCL-Ilocos Sur Chapter); Cheryl Bascos-Sembrano (PCL-Pangasinan Chapter), secretary-general; Marilyn Jucar (PCL-La Union Chapter), treasurer; Jose Pepito B. Zapata (PCL- Ilocos Sur-Chapter), press relations officer; and Melchor B. Guillen (PCL-Ilocos Norte Chapter), auditor.
The council directors are: Alipio Serafin D. Fernandez (PCL-Dagupan Chapter), Noriel R. Soriano (PCL-Ilocos Norte Chapter), Constante F. Dancel, Jr.(PCL-Ilocos Norte Chapter), Jocelyn Visaya (PCL-Pangasinan Chapter), Noel Apolinario Bautista(PCL-Pangasinan Chapter), Constante E. Belen (PCL-Ilocos Sur Chapter), Benedicto M.
