Five (5) barangays in the City of San Fernando received milkfish or bangus fingerlings as a form of assistance from the Food Agriculture Organization, a non-government organization (NGO) based in Manila on January 24, 2011.
According to the City Agriculture and Fishery, boxes containing about 44,100 milkfish fingerlings arrived in the city recently and are delivered via a delivery truck to the office of City Mayor Pablo C. Ortega.
The beneficiaries were identified based on a submitted report of damages at the national level during the previous typhoon “Pepeng” which brought havoc to agriculture and fisheries, as well as in infrastructure in various areas, including the province of La Union.
City Media Bureau was informed that each beneficiary in a certain barangay is given 500 fingerlings. Identified barangays which were worst hit by the previous typhoon were Barangays Biday, Carlatan, Dalumpinas Este, Lingsat, and Bangkusay, this city.
Present during the event were the Barangay Captains from the said barangays, Mayor Ortega, City Fishery Division personnel, as well as some typhoon victims and guests. |
