Avoid “Watusi” Campaign

The Department of Health in cooperation with City Government of San Fernando headed by City Mayor Pablo C. Ortega and City Health Officer Dr. Eduardo Posadas conducted a campaign advising parents to watch out their children from using firecrackers and to prevent them from ingesting “watusi” because it is highly poisonous.

The campaign, which was held in front of the City Hall yesterday, (December 27), is inline with the: “OPLAN IWAS PAPUTOK”

Watusi which has yellow phosphorous potassium nitrate, potassium chlorate and trinitrotoloune content, is a poisonous pyrotechnic played by children that is commonly mistaken as a toy or candy.

“We should avoid letting our children play with this kind of firecracker for it may risk their health and may threaten their life,” Ortega said.

With this, the City Government of San Fernando together with the Philippine National Police, the City Health Office and the City Permits and Licenses Section fully supports this campaign as they simultaneously blow out their “torotot” (paper horns) in preparation for the coming New Year’s celebration.
