An entrapment operation composed of a group led by P/SSupt. Pedro Obaldo, Jr., assistant provincial police director for administration based at Camp Diego Silang, held in their custody two suspected police officers involved in an alleged extortion, downtown yesterday.
Obaldo identified the suspects as Police Officer1 Ferdinand Zamora and Police Officer2 Manuel Espejo, both assigned at the San Fernando Police Station.
Initial investigation revealed that Joy Galera, wife of a Bombo Radyo volunteer and a resident of Barangay Sagayad told police that she was being asked for P3, 000 to P5, 000 in exchange for the driver’s license they had confiscated for an alleged traffic violation of her husband, John while cruising at an intersection in the downtown area recently. Joy with the help of Bombo Radyo station manager John Sison, immediately coordinated with Obaldo and conducted the operation. The marked money was supposed to be handed over two the said police officers at a grocery store, where Zamora was caught in the act.
Traffic violators usually redeem their driver’s licenses with a regulated fee from the City Treasurer’s Office.
The two suspects are now in the custody of the La Union Police Provincial Office, pending cases filed against them by the Galeras and their higher officials. |
