The City government of San Fernando, headed by Mayor Pablo C. Ortega, together with the different agencies like the Philippine National Red Cross, the Philippine National Police, and the different coastal barangays of the city such as Carlatan, Ilocanos Sur, Ilocanos Norte, Pagdaraoan, Catbangen, Lingsat, Dalumpinas Oeste, San Vicente, Pagudpud, San Francisco, Canaoay, San Agustin, Poro and Pagdalagan, are all set for “Oplan SumVac”, an emergency assistance to vacationers and beach goers during the summer vacation especially during the holy week season when local and foreign tourists troop to the beaches for summer fun.
“We have 35 trained life guards who will be stationed at Canaoay and San Agustin for emergency during the summer and the holy week,” Mayor Ortega said.

“While they will be stationed at these two barangays, they will still be the responding life guards to the other coastal barangays in case there will be emergency incidents there”, he added.
A Rubber boat of the Philippine National Red Cross stationed in Paringao, Bauang will be on stand by for emergency, while two Patrol boats and a speed boat of the Kasay will be roving around the city beaches.
“The city is giving 30 liters of gasoline per day for the boats to patrol along the beaches for any emergency that may occur”, Mayor Ortega said.
The dazzling beaches of La Union are one of the primary tourist destinations during the summer and holy week season. Local and foreign tourists take advantage of the long holidays and enjoy the beach, relax, soul search or just find quality time with families and friends. |
