Bothered by the current issues on rice shortage, Mayor Pablo Ortega, who turned 57 on April 3, celebrated his birthday by donating rice and goods to the indigent families at Barangay Tanqui of the City of San Fernando.
“We know that many of our residents are bothered with the present issues on rice price increases. Since I find more joy in giving, I thought donating rice especially to our residents in need would be a better way to celebrate my birthday” Mayor Ortega said.
Mayor Pablo said he learned that some residents were not able to avail of the limited supply of rice being distributed by the National Food Authority (NFA) in accredited outlets that is why he opted to give gifts to poor families.
Mrs. Sally C. Matoza, City Social Welfare Officer, said that around 400 indigents were benefited in the ten cavans of rice, 12 boxes of noodles, and four boxes of sardines that were distributed while two hundred children were given free meals as part of the feeding program of the city government.
Early in the morning on his birthday, the Mayor also conducted a tree-planting activity at Barangay Carlatan as part of the Earth Month celebration of the City. He also took part in the Medical-Dental Mission conducted by the City Health Office headed by Dr. Eduardo S. Posadas.
In the afternoon, the Mayor celebrated his birthday with surprise numbers from city hall officials and employees at the Marcos building. |
