The Professional Regulation Commission has chosen dentist Victor R. Valdez, a former municipal dentist and a native of Sevilla Heights, this city, the highest award bestowed by the Commission for his demonstration of professional competence of the highest degree, particularly in the field of dentistry in terms of his activities, advancement and socio-related participations and contributions.
Valdez, who was also a recipient of other awards and citations such as Kapitan Chengcheng Award; Outstanding Division Chief of the Department of Health in 1991; Outstanding Field Dentist (1964); Outstanding Alumni of the Manila Central University (1992); Outstanding Public Health Dentist in La Union (1958); MCU Loyalty award (1952); and Southern California Filipino Dental Practitioners Association recognition for support he extended in a bid for its affiliation, has received his 2008 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award during a ceremony held on June 20 at the Fiesta Pavilion of the Manila Hotel.
It is remembered that Valdez served as Municipal Dentist under the administration of Mayor Godofredo Rilloraza.
He also attended several international studies and travel grants, particularly in New Zealand and Australia; World Health Organization fellowship in NZ, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia; dental congress in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.
As a member of the Philippine Dental Association, Valdez held positions such as the speaker of the House of Delegates for four terms; Board of Trustees, 5 terms; executive director; secretary, floor leader, speaker pro tempore of the House of Delegates. He was also the associate editor of PDA Bulletin and Journal.
Valdez also initiated raising funds for officers, members and friends of the PDA; and as a speaker pro tempore, he crafted the Omnibus Election Code of 1992, assisted by Rodolfo Lope; drafted P. D. 1542 to establish standards, regulate and license for the operation of dental prosthetic laboratories;
At the DOH, Valdez became the Public Health Dentist Field Grade, 1955-63, La Union 1st District; provincial senior dentist, training officer; chief dental training officer, among others. |
