City Vice Mayor Pancracio Q. Nisce urged city residents here to continue the reforestation program to prevent impending natural calamities.
Nisce, who graced the Arbor Day Tree-Planting activity to mark the celebration of Environmental Month at the La Union Botanical Garden, Wednesday, reminded citizens the effects of natural calamities that had befallen the world, brought by the greenhouse effect from global warming to the worsening and unpredictable changes in the climate.
Over 500 employees and personnel of the national and local government units participated in the planting of various trees at the said vicinity.
Nisce also led the signing of memorandum of understanding on the adoption of plantation areas (Adopt-a-Lot for Greening and Plantation Development) between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, under Regional Executive Director Constancio Arciaga; Dir. Leonardo Quitos of National Economic and Development Authority-Region I; and Acting Association of Regional Executives Victoria Manes of the NNC.
“Tree plating activities must be sustained as the city’s commitment to global movement to save Mother Earth,” Nisce said and added that it is for future generations who deserve cleaner air and environment.
