Mayor Pablo C. Ortega recently joined a seminar on “Transportation Strategies for Sustainable Urban Development” held from September 8-9, 2008 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The seminar was organized by Citynet and Seoul Development Institute (SDI) and was hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG). The program basically provided opportunities for local government officials to learn, share ideas about policies and methods of sustainable urban development and share information and know-how through case studies from other cities.
The seminar was also held in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Regional Training Center (KLRTC) Training Course XV on “Sustainable Transportation in Asia and the Pacific”, which was conducted from September 10-12, 2008 at the Seoul Human Resource Development Center. It was the first time a KLRTC programme was held in South Korea.
The city of San Fernando has already initiated some major projects on transportation, among which are the conversion of two-stroke to four-stroke tricycles which also answers environment issues on air pollution; the proposal for the construction of a terminal for public utility vehicles, which was started during the term of Mayor Mary Jane C. Ortega.

Mayor Pablo Ortega, as part of his initial projects during the first year of his term, has converted the stalls at the Marcos building as additional parking spaces. This has also eased the traffic flow along the Central Business District as the road was also widened. Also, for a more organized parking system, the Mayor has provided an exclusive parking space for motorcycles in front of the City Hall.
After the Mayor’s Seminar in Seoul, he also attended the PLUS Network Biennial Conference held from September 15 to 19 in Durban, South Africa where he spoke and shared the City Development Strategy of the City of San Fernando. |
