According to various psychological researches, early stage in a child’s life is where their brains are impacted with positive influences like bonding with their family but it is also in these early years that negative influences like stress or instability create challenges in their life.

As partners in mental health, the City Health Office (CHO) conducted a seminar on “Improving Health and Development for At-Risk Children and Youth” for health workers last July 19, 2018.

According to the resource speaker Marvin So, MPH, “problems with mental health in adolescence often start with problems in childhood.”

Marvin So is a native of San Fernando who has earned a degree in Public Health at Harvard University. His dedication to his field and his love for the people moves him to voluntarily speak in seminars and share his knowledge about mental health. This is why he challenges the public health workers to be advocates of positive mental health to prevent mental health conditions.

72 public health workers and barangay health volunteers responded to this challenge during the event as they pledged to continue in educating themselves to be effective partners in fighting mental health problems since they believe in the City Government’s mantra that no one should be left behind.
