His Most Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev Fr. Daniel O. Presto as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of San Fernando de La Union. His canonical installation is set on August 2, 2018 at St. William the Hermit Cathedral of the city.
Born in Mangaldan, Pangasinan on Apri 7, 1963, Fr. Presto was ordained as priest at the age of 27 for the Diocese of Iba, Zambales which he also administered at present before the announcement from Vatican.
He has served as vicar of the Saint Rita parish in Olongapo City and the Saint Michael parish in Santa Cruz, Zambales. From 2005 to 2012, He was the vicar forane of the Saint Joseph Vicariate, director of the Saint Augustine School of Iba, and president of the Magsaysay Memorial College of San Narciso.
Bishop Presto wholeheardtedly and faithfully served the Diocesan Catholic educational institutions as well. He was the President of the Columban College of Olongapo City from 1993 to 2005, college President of Magsaysay Memorial College, San Narciso from October 2005 to June 2018, director of St. Augustine's School, Iba from January 2006 to May 2010. From May 2010 to June 2018, he was also the director of St. Nicholas Academy, Castillejos and the chaplain of T.T. Yangco Catholic Educational Institute, San Antonio from May 2012 to June 2018.
Since 2012, Most Rev. Presto has been based in San Antonio as parish priest as well as a member of the Presbyteral Council and various diocesan commissions.
Bishop Presto succeeds Bishop Rodolfo Beltran, who died last year after leading the diocese for four years.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) made the announcement on its official website last May 9, 2018.
