In line with Mayor Dong Gualberto’s green initiatives, the City Government will enhance the Central Business District through the Green Space Project Grant awarded by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) which amounts to P7 Million.
Engr. Elfren Antonio Gatchalian Jr. of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) said that P2.5-million of the fund shall be used for the Phase 1 of the proposed project on sidewalks and four corners of the San Fernando City dry market or more popularly known as old market.
“The proposed Green Space Project will install palm trees, scrubs, and flowering plants in surrounding grass areas, benches, and pavements” said Gatchalian. In addition, improving parking areas, and installation of pedestrian lanes and solar panels are also part of the project.
Katherine Muller, Senior Environmental Management Specialist of CENRO, said that phase 2 and 3 of the project is the development of the City Wet Market, and the streets of the Central Business District.
The Greening Space Project aims to maximize underutilized spaces, improve connectivity, and accessibility, and support biodiversity throughout the country. DBM’s funding on environmental projects is a part of the administration’s massive infrastructure initiative until 2022.
