As additional support to the poor and underprivileged deserving high school and college students and to the academically excellent students in the City, the City Government of San Fernando has established and implemented the Educational Assistance Program since 2006 through the Scholarship Ordinance of the City of San Fernando.

The scholarship program benefits a total of 60 poor but deserving students: 30 slots for high school students and 30 slots for college students. An additional 27 slots are allotted to accommodate academically excellent students.

Under the said ordinance, the City Budget Office has to appropriate an annual budget of Php 1,050,000.00 worth of scholarship funds to cover the educational expenses and school necessities throughout the academic year. Each high school scholar will receive Php10,000.00 cash assistance a year, while a college scholar will receive Php 8,000.00 per semester.

City Mayor Alf Ortega led the distribution of the financial assistance to 65 scholars yesterday, August 17, 2020 at the Mayor’s Conference Room. “Huwag ninyong sayangin ang pag-aaral ninyo, kasi maraming naghahanap ng scholarship. Regalo ito, kumbaga blessing na galing sa City Government, but make sure to do your part, dahil darating ang panahon na maging successful kayo, marating ang dreams ninyo, ay kayo naman ang tutulong sa inyong mga magulang at sa mga iba pang nangangailangan ng tulong,” Mayor Alf remarked as he encouraged the scholars.
