Tobacco farmers of San Fernando City received 1,378 bags of fertilizers and 126 knapsack sprayers from the City Government through the City Agriculture Office (CAO), at the City Food Terminal in Barangay Biday, last December 03, 2020.    

These farm supplies is part of the aid granted to Virginia Tobacco growers under R.A. 7171 An Act to Promote the Development of the Farmer in the Virginia Tobacco Producing Provinces. 

Mayor Dong Gualberto led the ceremonial distribution together with 

National Tobacco Administration (NTA) officials, and CAO staff. City Councilor Chary Nisce also graced the event.

Recipients who received the aid are from barangays Bungro, Narra Oeste, Narra Este, Sagayad, Tanquigan, Puspus, Calabugao, Baraoas, Pacpaco, Pao Sur, Pao Norte Cabarsican, Masicong, Sacyud, Nagyubuyuban, Dallangayan Oeste, and Dallangayan Este. 

Manong Dong encouraged the tobacco growers to continue planting and wishes that their number will continue to increase because he believes that tobacco industry is still profitable and can improve the quality of life of every farmer and his family. 

Mayor is also thinking of some other ways to help the farmers of the city such as trainings and capacity enhancement so that they can utilize their skills to seek for alternative livelihood. “These are just some of my suggestions. Proposals must come from you because you know what is the best for you. We are your servant and you are our boss. Just tell us what you want us to do and we will do it for you,” he said.
