Last August 19, the City Government of San Fernando through the City Health Office (CHO) conducted an Anti-Dengue Campaign dubbed as Palit Gulong Atbp. Kontra Dengue at Brgy. Catbangen.

The drive aims to urge the residents to exchange their used tires for rice as these materials are the common breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

With the help of Catbangen’s barangay officials led by Brgy. Captain Jeffrey Apilado and the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), the residents were encouraged to bring piles of used tires at the Barangay Covered Courts while still adhering to COVID-19 minimum health protocols.

Aside from tires, plastic bottles and other recycable materials were also accepted. In the exchange, a certain weight or number of tires or materials corresponds to a specific value of the rice commodity.

Kap Jeffrey said he is thankful to CHO for initiating this project especially during the rainy season because it is a way to keep their residents safer from dengue. This also helps instill discipline among the people.

This activity was simultaneous with the campaign at Brgy. Pagdalagan. This Aug. 20, the campaign was held at Brgys. Sevilla and Pagudpud. This project will also be conducted in the other areas that record high numbers of dengue cases here in the City. 

Aside from taking precautions against COVID-19, let us also keep our families and community members dengue-free by always cleaning our surroundings. Together, let us always be healthy and proactive here in #SanFernandoTayo!
