CGSFLU, BARANGAY COUNCILS, EXTERNAL PARTNERS CONVENE IN A MEETING AFTER THE ONSLAUGHT OF TYPHOON EMONG

After experiencing the onslaught of Typhoon Emong, the City Government of San Fernando, La Union (CGSFLU), called an emergency meeting with the barangay councils, national government agencies, and other external partners to discuss disaster response at the ABC Hall, City Hall Compound, on July 28, 2025.

The meeting, being presided over by City Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto, started with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) presenting the current situation of the city. Stakeholder feedback was also raised thereafter, especially from the barangay councils, to deliver the concerns of the residents to the City Government and external partners.

In addition, coordinated action points were also highlighted during the meeting. For the clearing operations, the Office of Civil Defense, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources are working with the CDRRMC for a more effective operation. Restoration of telecommunication and power lines is also ongoing, as reported by the concerned companies.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development is awaiting the actual list from the CGSFLU of all affected residents for them to prepare for the distribution of assistance. The Department of Health (DOH) also reminded the attending individuals to be mindful of stagnant waters to avoid dengue. The DOH also asked to relay to their friends and family the use of doxycycline to avoid having leptospirosis.

Also present during the meeting were Ms. Lucia Esperanza O. Valero, representative of City Vice Mayor Hon. Pablo C. Ortega, and City Councilors Hon. Kyle Marie Eufrosito Y. Nisce, Hon. Leonardo R.
