CITY GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PALENG-QR PLUS PROGRAM, PROMOTES CASHLESS TRANSACTIONS IN THE CITY

To maximize the use of digital payments and encourage cashless transactions in the city, the City Government launched the Paleng-QR PH Plus Program through an Information Caravan held in Osmeña Street, Barangay III, City of San Fernando, La Union on July 8, 2024.
The implementation of this Program is supported by City Ordinance No. 2024-01 or the Paleng-QR Ordinance of the City of San Fernando which highlights the adoption of digital payments in the public market and public transportation, including sari-sari stores and other local merchants.
During the event, City Administrator Col. Ramon F. Laudencia, on behalf of City Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto, welcomed all the stakeholders in the activity and delivered his message while City Councilor Hon. Jonathan Justo A. Orros, as the author of the Paleng-QR Ordinance, expounded on the benefits of utilizing digital payments which include efficiency in commercial transactions, support to local businesses, promote well-being through contactless transactions, and also encourages digital inclusion in the City of San Fernando.
Other information about the Paleng-QR PH Plus Program was also shared from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor, Dr. Eli M. Remolona, Jr.; BSP North Luzon Regional Director, Atty. Noel Neil Q. Malimban; Department of Trade and Industry Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist, Ms. Victoria A. Ordoño; Department of Information and Communication Technology La Union Provincial Director, Engr. Noel M. Ramos; and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) City Local Government Operations Officer, Ms. Lily Ann O. Colisao.
Moreover, City Vice Mayor Hon. Alfredo Pablo R. Ortega expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders for participating in the Program and promoting a smarter and more innovative transaction in the city during his closing remarks.
Also present during the activity were the financial service providers from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Landbank of the Philippines, Metrobank, Security Bank, GoTyme Bank, GCash, and Paymaya.
The Paleng-QR PH Program is a joint program of the BSP and the DILG that aims to build the digital payments ecosystem in the country by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, particularly tricycles.
