As the nation observes Blood Donor’s Month this July, the City Government of San Fernando together with the Department of Health, Provincial Health Office, various schools, private offices and barangays boost programs and services to promote and expand blood donation among the citizens of the People’s City and other towns in La Union.

Among the initiatives are blood donation advocacy campaigns, home-based or community-based blood donation drives, blood donors award system, and sustenance of blood banks.

This is to obtain a sustainable supply of blood for patients and hospital needs of the province and nearby areas amidst the current pandemic.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) La Union – San Fernando City Chapter is also among the active partner agencies.

Almira V. Abrazado, Chapter Administrator of PRC La Union-San Fernando City Chapter, encourages all who are physically fit to donate blood 3 to 4 times a year, making it a regular habit.

She admits that quarantine guidelines in the past months affected the blood bank supply with low visits of regular donors and suspension of large scale blood donation drives. Abrazado further bares that the Red Cross is focusing their campaigns on the youth sector with the “Pledge 25” program, and a future tie up with the Provincial Sangguniang Kabataan Federation.
