The City Government of San Fernando, La Union received an award from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) during the Digital Cities Awarding 2024 event of Contact Islands 2024 held in Cebu City on July 24-26, 2024.

The City Government was recognized as one of the awardees for its exceptional achievements under the DICT Digital Cities Program, highlighting the exemplary efforts of the city in generating employment opportunities, fostering sustainable growth, enhancing digital infrastructure, and promoting innovation in collaboration with all its stakeholders.

Ms. Germie O. Deang, CICTO Department Head, who represented City Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto during the event, and Ms. Rizalyn D. Medrano, LEBDO Department Head, later handed over the plaque to the City Mayor.

The awarding ceremony was spearheaded by DICT Usec. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, together with Dir. Emmy Lou Delfin of DICT-IIDB, IBPAP President and CEO Jack Madrid, CCAP Chairman Mitche Locsin, and IBPAP COO Celeste Ilagan.

In addition, the City Government, together with the representatives of the San Fernando ICT Council, participated in the Contact Islands 2024, a conference dedicated to customer experience and innovative business management hosted by the Contact Center Association of the Philippines.

The participants of this event engaged with IT-BPM companies such as Enshored and Service First Asia, encouraging these firms to invest in San Fernando with the support of DICT-IIDB. Additionally, they discussed talent development collaboration programs with representatives from the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), aiming to strengthen further the city’s position as a premier digital hub.
