CITY GOV’T. PARTICIPATES IN THE REGIONAL LAUNCHING OF "HALINA'T MAGTANIM NG PRUTAS AT GULAY SA BARANGAY" PROJECT
To strengthen the capacities of barangays toward sustainable agriculture initiatives, the City Government through the City Agriculture Office participated in the launching of “Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay” Project, a project of Department of the Interior and Local Government in partnership with Department of Agriculture, in Barangay Bato, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Together with the Barangay Council of Bato, the local farmers had a webinar on alternative methods of vegetable gardening. Following the webinar was a planting activity in the vegetable garden of the said barangay.
This project perceives that sustainable agriculture could be achieved through intensification and fostering of agricultural activities such as barangay community gardening wherein households and communities are encouraged to produce fresh, healthy and affordable fruits and vegetables from their backyards and spaces, through the establishment of community gardens in barangay with vacant areas.
Kakabsat, let us continue to work together towards sustainability as we develop #SanFernandoTayo into becoming a #PeoplesCity.
