City Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega led the inspection of the two (2) units of Solar Aquaponics System awarded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office No. I (BFAR-ROI) to the Magnificent Fisherfolks and Payao Association of Ilocanos Sur, City of San Fernando, La Union. The turnover program was held at the Ilocanos Sur Barangay Hall last September 24, 2020.
The program was also graced by Vice Mayor Chary Nisce together with Councilors Antonio Jucar and Jessie Miranda, Brgy. Officials of Ilocanos Sur, Representatives from BFAR-ROI and City Agriculture employees.
Aquaponics system is a combination of Aquaculture, the process of growing fish and other aquatic animals, and Hydroponics, a method of growing plants without soil. Aquaponics system enables the plants to be nurtured with the aquatic animals’ discharge or waste. The system’s free electricity is generated by an installed solar panel which runs the system’s pump.
