Elfren Antonio Gatchalian, Jr., Project Officer of CENRO, the P2.5M fund for the phase 1 project was used to improve the sidewalks and corners of the Shopping Mall. “In order to comply with the standards of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) in urban greening programs to materialize, palm trees, shrubs, flowering plants, grass area, benches, and pavements were installed, including renovations of parking areas, pedestrian lanes, and solar light panels,” said Gatchalian. The project was funded by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) P7M grant, which is allocated for environmental projects in line with the “Green, Green, Green” project of the national government. The City of San Fernando is among the 77 LGU beneficiaries of this grant. The CENRO identified specific sites to be developed and forwarded these project proposals to avail of the funding assistance. Amidst the continuous developments which the City Government implements, the environmental sustainability aspect remains as one of the City’s priorities.
