The City Government of San Fernando, La Union through the City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), together with the Barangay Officials from Pao Norte and Sacyud, take part in the “Let Our Rivers Heal Too” program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in connection to Operation MIA V 2.O Magsidalus Iti Arubayan last October 6, 2020.
A river clean-up drive was conducted along the streams of the Naguilian river system. Two teams were assigned to clean the areas along Disso-or falls and Duplas creek in Pao Norte as well as the connecting creek system from Barangay Sacyud. They collected an estimated total of 50kg of waste.
According to CENRO Environment Management Specialist 1 Engr. Lea E. Ohelen, unmonitored visitors in the site left behind their waste ending up in river systems when washed away by rain. She then emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal in caring for our environment.
Moving forward, CENRO plans to sustain its strong partnership with DENR and strengthen information campaigns as well as to capacitate the barangays to maintain the critical areas. The office will conduct quarterly meetings and planning sessions as well as the inventory of all livestock being pastured in the area to improve overall water quality.
The City Government of San Fernando, La Union aims to provide the people with a clean and green environment to preserve our health and safety. Let us take part in this endeavor by expressing #SanFernandoAyaytenKa.
