CITY OF SAN FERNANDO JOINS THE BIGGEST HOUR FOR EARTH

Embodying the call to be stewards of the Earth, the City of San Fernando observed this year’s Earth Hour featuring the Lantern Making Contest of the creative Fernandos and Fernandas.
With the theme, “Biggest Hour for Earth,” a live acoustic performance by the Light Ubox Acoustic Duo kicked off the event, welcoming the audience who came to join the festivities.
At 8:30 PM, the signature countdown commenced to the hour-long lights off activity representing the call to conserve energy for a brighter and healthier environment in the future. The event also featured the Pintigan, a meditation with chant which invited everyone to feel and realize the essence of the environment and our roles as stewards.
Everyone was united in fulfilling their mission in protecting the environment, as they lit their candles in the Lighting of the Symbolic 60+ which was led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
As part of the festivities, a Lantern Making Contest was done showcasing the grand, creative, and eco-friendly lanterns of individual participants and different academe, organizations, and barangays. The following were awarded:
Category A: Individuals, Organizations and Barangays
– 1st Place: Rhone Jayke Jacildone
– 2nd Place: Axel Pagaduan
– 3rd Place: Angel Dumpit
– Consolation Price: AJ Pascua & Jared Noces
Category B: Academe
– 1st Place: Bungro Elementary School
– 2nd Place: Catbangen Central School
– 3rd Place: La Union National High School
– Consolation Price: Union Christian College & Dalumpinas Elementary School
Before the lights went on, an awarding of certificates for the Biodiversity Month also took place recognizing various individuals for their exemplary contributions.
The program concluded with the remarks of City Councilor Hon. Edwin H. Yumul, Chairperson Committee on Environment. Moreover, City Councilor Mark Anthony Ducusin and City Administrator Col. Ramon F. Laudencia also shared their messages during the event.
