SEASON-LONG FARMERS' FIELD SCHOOL ON CORN PRODUCTION HOLDS GRADUATION CEREMONY

The City Government of San Fernando, La Union, through the City Agriculturist’s Office, successfully conducted a Season-Long Farmers’ Field School (FFS) on Corn Production in Barangay Pao Sur, culminating in the graduation of 27 corn growers on March 26, 2026.

The program, which ran for almost 14 weeks, provided weekly learning sessions that combined lectures, field monitoring of crop growth, pest and disease management, and hands-on field demonstrations. Farmers were trained on both yellow and white corn production—from seed establishment up to harvesting—aimed at enhancing their knowledge and improving productivity and sustainability in the local agricultural sector.

Present during the activity were City Vice Mayor Hon. Pablo C. Ortega, along with City Councilors Hon. Lilibeth G. Hipol, Hon. Aldrine R. Jucar, Hon. Nerissa Joy O. Almazan, Hon. Edwin H. Yumul, Hon. Ramon F. Laudencia, and Hon. Leonardo R. Soriano, Jr.

Also present were Mr. Marcelo J. Otanes, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office, and Ms. Anne Lovelle G. Zabala, La Union Corn Coordinator, who expressed their continued support for programs that empower the farming community.
