One of the most affected sectors in this global health crisis is our farmers. Although they suffered losses as an effect of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine, they continue to find ways to reach out and do their share for the community.
Last April 30, 2020, Benguet State University – Agribase Technology Business Incubator (BSU-ATBI) spearheaded by Dr. Ruth C. Diego extended their help by bringing assorted highland vegetables to our City.
Through the assistance of the Department of Agriculture Region 1, the City Government of San Fernando, La Union, received 1,200 packs of vegetable produce from BSU’s farmer-incubators under their ATBI program.
The City is fortunate to witness an act of heroism in them, for they continue to distribute and donate some of their harvests to different provinces. They believe that these are just some of their ways to give back to the community who are in dire need.
In a time when so many of us can feel disconnected, initiatives like these can bring people together. The innate generosity of Benguet Farmers would remind us that hope and solidarity continues to rise in these trying times.
