The City Government of San Fernando, La Union ranked 9th Overall Most Competitive Local Government Unit under the Component Cities Category in the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) 2024 of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

During the national awarding ceremony, City Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto and Local Economic and Business Development Office (LEBDO) Department Head Ms. Rizalyn D. Medrano received the plaque of recognition for being the Top 1 in the Government Efficiency and Top 5 in the Resiliency pillar at the Fiesta Pavilion, The Manila Hotel, Metro Manila on August 23, 2024.

Moreover, the City Government also achieved Top 25th in Economic Dynamism, Top 24th in Innovation and Top 21st in Infrastructure.

In 2023, the City Government ranked 13th Overall Most Competitive Component City in the country.

The annual CMCI awarding ceremony recognizes and celebrates the achievements of cities and municipalities in promoting sustainable development and innovation through their competitive strides.
