CITY VET CONDUCTS RABIES SEMINAR, TRAINS BARANGAY ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS ON IMPOUNDING

The Office of the City Veterinarian conducted a seminar on rabies and training on impounding to Barangay Animal Control Officers (BACO) and Barangay Animal Health and Welfare Officers (BAHWO) on June 22, 2023 at the Slaughterhouse Compound, Tanqui, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Department of Agriculture – Regional Office 1 Rabies Focal Person Dr. Sigrid Agustin was invited to impart basic information on rabies while City Health Office Rabies Coordinator Nurse Mylkee Star Galera provided knowledge on human rabies. Talks on RA 8485 Animal Welfare Act, RA 9482 Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, and related City Ordinances were also tackled during the seminar.
A hands-on training on impounding was held after the rabies seminar in which our City Pound Keepers taught BACO and BAHWO the basics of animal impounding. The Keepers also taught the participants on how to use impounding tools properly and proceeded to an actual impounding operation, applying the lessons delivered during their training.
After an hour of actual operation, BACO and BAHWO returned to the Slaughterhouse Compound to report and receive their Certificate of Training and Designation.
This activity will continue to be conducted until all BACO and BAHWO of all barangays in the city have been trained. Together, let us work on a safer and rabies-free #PeoplesCity of #SanFernandoTayo.
