MINI LIBRARY INSTALLED FOR PDL PROMOTION INCLUSIVITY IN THE CITY

The City Government, through the City Library, launched the project “Book Saves: Establishing a Mini Library for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL)” at the San Fernando City Jail (SFCJ). The mini-library has a collection of 550 different titles of books from fiction and non-fiction to religious books and reference available for our brothers and sisters who are deprived of liberty.
The installation of the mini-library was initiated by the City Library headed by OIC City Librarian Michael “Aiko” Nagas. Inspector Reynald Ocreto OIC of the SFCJ thanked the City Government for this wonderful initiative that will help the PDL to broaden their knowledge and develop their skills as they read.
The PDLs also showed their gratitude through a song, rap, and dance presentation. Former City Mayor and City Library founder Mary Jane Ortega was the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
Saint Louis College President Rev. Father Ramon Caluza and Father Val Narcise, who donated religious reading materials, also graced the launching.
Video messages and greetings were also shared online by Ms. Lilia Echiverri of Phil. Federation of Profdessional Association, Hon. Yolanda Granda Chairperson, Board of Librarians PRC, Ms. Emma Rey President, Phil. Librarians Assn. Inc., Ms. Blesila Velasco Chief Librarian V, Public Library Division, NLP, Director Caesar Gilbert Adriano Executive Director, National Library of the Philippines and JSSupt Arnel Peralta, Regional Director of the Jail Bureau.
In his message, Acting City Mayor Alf Ortega said that #SanFernandoAyAyatenKa is built on love and that we should show concern for our brothers and sisters in jail, and help each other.
Acting City Vice Mayor Chary Nisce also assured that the PDLs will never be neglected in the City.
The City Government could not achieve such success if it were not for the people who continue to partner and support the programs for #SanFernandoAyAyatenKa
