CITY GOVERNMENT HOSTS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FORUM TO BOOST INNOVATION

The City Government of San Fernando, La Union, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPhil), successfully held an Intellectual Property (IP) Forum in the People’s Hall, City Hall on November 25, 2024.

 

This event is part of the city’s IP Boost initiative under the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program. Representatives from academic institutions, researchers, businesses, the cultural and arts sector, and government agencies were among the attendees to maximize the purpose of the activity.

 

During the activity, Ms. Rizalyn D. Medrano, LEBDO Department Head, delivered the context setting and opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property in driving innovation and economic growth. Meanwhile, Prof. Keneth Bayani shared insights on the city’s ranking in the City Management Competitiveness Index (CMCI), highlighting its progress in fostering an innovation-driven environment. In addition, Engr. Halen Gamisera of IPOPhil provided an in-depth discussion on the fundamentals of intellectual property, including key concepts and the registration process.

 

The forum aimed to raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property in fostering innovation and protecting creative works. It provided participants with valuable insights into the processes of IP registration, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, to empower local innovators and entrepreneurs.

 

 

Through this initiative, initiated by the City Information and Communications Technology Office, the City Government of San Fernando continues its efforts to support sustainable economic growth and innovation, positioning the #PeoplesCity of #SanFernandoTayo as a hub for creativity and technological advancement.
