The City Government of San Fernando convened various media stakeholders and other key agencies at the People’s Hall, today, March 11, 2020, to discuss prevailing issues in line with COVID-19 alerted to Code Red Sublevel 1 and the confirmation of African Swine Fever in the City.

CONFIRMED CASE ON ASF
The City Veterinary Office confirmed that blood samples from pigs found in a backyard farm in Brgy. Cadaclan tested positive for African Swine Fever on March 6, 2020, by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The City Veterinary Office (VET), the DA, and the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian are vigorously enforcing the “1-7-10 Protocol” within the 1-kilometer radius to manage and control the spread of African swine fever (ASF).

Moreover, the City VET continues to conduct culling operations, especially in areas within the 1-kilometer radius. The City Government of San Fernando, Department of Agriculture and the Provincial Government will provide financial assistance to backyard raisers whose hogs were affected by the ASF 1-7-10 Protocol.

CITY REMAINS COVID19-FREE
During the press conference, the City Health Office headed by Dr. Allyn Pacio said that the City remains free from COVID-19. The City Government of San Fernando established Task Force “Asangkamaysa a Gunglo nga Aywanan Ti Sak-sakit nga Makaalis” (AGASM) to map out strategies and necessary measures to assess, monitor, contain, control and prevent the spread of coronavirus across the City.

Dr. Rhueuel C. Bobis of the Department of Health (DOH) Infectious Disease Center clarifies that the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is not classified as an airborne disease. Hence, he reminded everyone to practice good personal hygiene such as frequent handwashing or use of alcohol and to maintain a distance of at least 1-2 meters from individuals classified as Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) or Persons Under Investigation (PUI).

The City Government is also working closely with DOH in implementing strict protocols and control information campaigns to educate the public.

The City Schools Division (CSD) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) have established certain protocols and initiatives to ensure the safety and welfare of their students such as but not limited to the deployment of hygiene stations. According to the CSD and CHED, suspension of classes is not being recommended at the moment.

The City Government continues to strengthen partnerships with other government and non-government agencies, including civic and social organizations, to fight COVID-19 and African Swine Fever. After all, the residents’ welfare has always been the People’s City utmost priority.

City officials headed by Mayor Alf, along with the City Vice Mayor Chary Nisce, Hon. Tony Jucar, Hon. John Orros, Hon. Jessie Miranda and Hon. Rizalde Laudencia, as well as representatives from the City of San Fernando – Philippine National Police, Department of Health, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Department of Trade Industry, Department of Agriculture, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Media and Public Information Unit, Provincial Veterinary Office were present at the meeting.
