The Provincial Office of the Department of Interior and Local Government led a program called Orientation of Barangay Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (BTF-ELCAC) on E.O. 70, and Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development (CUCPD) at Barangay Poro Covered Court, on November 11, 2020.

This event seeks to institutionalize the Whole-of-Nation Approach to pave the way for collective participation and action in harmonizing government development efforts and services to support, facilitate, and pursue the country’s peace agenda.

Mayor Hermenegildo Gualberto graced the event and delivered a speech for the barangay representatives. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all barangay officials and those who are combating the CoViD-19 in the City of San Fernando, for their service in preventing local transmission of the deadly virus. He said that the key to overcoming this present pandemic is our unity. On the other note, he thanked the members of barangay task force for accepting this big responsibility and also reminded them that it is their duty to let the people feel that there is a government who looks after them. He ended his message saying that, “We all have the same wish, that is for us to have everlasting peace not only here in San Fernando, not only in the Province of La Union, but also in our country. We all desire a good future for our children so we must all work together in achieving peace in our city and in our country.”

Also present during the event were Virgilio P. Sison, CESE Provincial Director, DILG La Union, LTCOL Marcelo Valdez, Jr., Executive Officer, 702nd Brigade, Philippine Army, and Lily Ann Colisao, City Local Government Operations Officer.

The City Government works together with its citizens to make the People’s City a safe and peaceful home for all of us.
