LOOK: The City Government of San Fernando, La Union through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) conducted Operation MIA V 2.O or Magsimula iti Arubayan at Barangay Lingsat on October 3, 2020.
Partners from the Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Airforce, Philippine National Police (PNP) – Maritime, and Lingsat Barangay Council participated in planting a total of 1,000 mangrove seedlings along the waterways of ponds to achieve a clean and green City.
According to CENRO, mangroves act as buffer zones in waterways which prevent erosion and filter trash from reaching water bodies. They may also serve as spawning grounds for small fish, crabs, and other aquatic creatures. Additionally, they can absorb carbon dioxide to help keep the air clean.
The City Government of San Fernando aims to build a City that we and our future generations can be proud of and happy to live in. A cleaner and greener environment will allow our community to be healthy and safe because #SanFernandoAyayatenKa
