Youth and youth-serving organizations participated in the City Youth Development Council Election last Dec 3, 2020 and later convened for the their year-end assessment and mandatory training last Dec 10-12.
During the election proper, representatives from the 26 organizations presented their advocacy and shared their best practices to the group. Then, Local Youth Development Officer Jerome Acupan and City Local Government Operations Officer Lily Ann Colisao explained the tenets of the CYDC. Voting began afterwards.
Mayor Dong Gualberto, Vice Mayor Alf Ortega, City Councilor Chary Nisce, and SK Federation President Macky Ducusin graced the election and shared their stories to inspire the young leaders.
Mayor Dong encouraged them to keep on treading the path of leadership: “paghusayan ninyo dahil kayo ang susunod na mga lider ng ating bayan.”
A week later, during the assessment and training, the CYDC completed three modules on the following topics: decentralization and local governance, SK history and salient features, meetings and resolutions, planning and budgeting, and code of conduct & ethical standards.
At the tail-end of the programme, Mayor Dong swore in the newly-elected officers of the City Youth Development Council. Marking their official start as the youth leaders of the city.
Congratulations to the new CYDC! Hangad namin ang inyong tagumpay sa pagtataguyod ng kapakanan ng mga kabataan ditoy #SanFernandoTayo. We hope you become the progressive leaders that our country badly needs.
