CITY GOVERNMENT PROMOTES AQUACULTURE FARMING THROUGH TRAINING OF UPLAND FISHERFOLKS

The City Government of San Fernando, La Union through the Office of the City Agriculturist conducted a Training on Integrated Aquaculture Farming System for 30 upland fisherfolks held at Barangay Cabarsican on November 6-7, 2024.

 

Mr. Argel F. Cacho, Aquaculturist 1 and Mr. Francisco M. Agasen, Fishing Regulations Officer 1 of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Field Office 1 covered various topics regarding biology of tilapia and catfish, aquaculture pond technologies for tilapia, biology, and culture of freshwater prawn or ulang, Hituan sa Babuyan, and Modified Intensive Tilapia Hatchery (MITH).

 

Moreover, participants and speakers also visited fish farms owned by Mr. Henry Nullar at Barangay Cabarsican and Mr. Arthur Aromin at Barangay Sacyud.

 

Ms. Valerie Ann S. Valdez, representing City Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto, Mr. Romel G. Andrada, representing Vice Mayor Hon. Alfredo Pablo Ortega, City Dr. Mary Jane B. Alcedo, Agriculturist, and Mr. Nickson Patrick G. Tomines, City Fishery Coordinator were also present to give their support in this event.

 

This training aims to promote and expand integrated aquaculture farming systems for upland fisherfolks as a viable source of income.
