
The City Government of San Fernando, La Union through the City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), conducted an initial meeting this afternoon, October 30, 2020, to discuss and prepare for the possible effect of Typhoon Rolly in our City.
City Mayor Alf Ortega, together with representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Coast Guard, and the concerned City Department Heads attended the said briefing. Heightened measures were in place to ensure the community’s protection, such as activating the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT). Further, the City has coordinated with the Department of Education (DepEd) in preparing for the evacuation centers.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Tropical cyclone wind signals No. 3 and 4 may be raised in some parts of the country in the coming days as Typhoon Rolly is expected to intensify further.
As of 4:00 PM today, the eye of Typhoon “ROLLY” was estimated, based on all available data, at 980 km East of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness up to 230 km/h. It is moving Westward at 20 km/h.
The public is advised to prepare and be aware of the announcements concerning Typhoon #RollyPH. Mayor Alf also reminded the disaster response team and the community to keep their emergency and communication lines open.
